Rather than waiting until your child is a teenager, bring them to an orthodontist in Austin, TX at an earlier age. Today, more orthodontists are recommending beginning treatment for dental malocclusions when a child still has their primary teeth. There are several reasons for beginning orthodontics before the adult teeth begin to erupt. First, a young child’s bones are softer, making it easier to change the shape of the palate or the position of the jawbone. These types of early orthodontic treatments with special appliances can improve the size of the mouth or the shape of the facial structure.
Also, rather than having speech impediments due to a mouth that is too small or teeth that are in the wrong position, a child can learn how to place their tongue on the proper teeth. With the proper jaw position, a child won’t need surgery to repair a recessed chin. Children have bones that are more malleable, so orthodontics to correct the alignment of the teeth is also less involved. Shifting the primary teeth can also make it easier for the adult teeth to erupt from the gums in the proper positions.
Making It Easier to Care for the Teeth
Our orthodontist in Austin, TX can also help children who have birth defects of the mouth that may affect the position of the teeth. Instead of needing additional procedures during adolescence, a patient may have the facial and dental repairs completed at an earlier age. This can make a child’s teenage years more pleasant because they won’t need to wear headgear or palate expanders. With orthodontic treatment during childhood, a patient can care for their teeth and gums correctly. Teeth that have the proper spacing and that aren’t overlapping are easier to brush and floss, so a child is less likely to have extensive tooth decay or gum disease.
Prevent Tooth Decay and Gum Disease with Early Orthodontics
By wearing braces on the teeth during childhood, a child can avoid having bite problems that lead to jaw joint disorders. These conditions can cause severe headaches, teeth damage or earaches during adulthood. With straight teeth, an individual can consume nutritious foods that are difficult to chew, including fresh vegetables and fruits. Braces repair teeth in a variety of ways in addition to making the teeth straight. It is also important for the teeth to have the proper spacing so that the teeth aren’t overcrowded or too far apart.

Excellent service and treatment!
by Lisa
Category: orthodontistWe have been seeing Dr. St. Loius at Central Texas Orthodontics for a couple kids now over several years. Everytime we walk in for an appointment, we are greeted warmly and promptly taken back. The office is easy to get to and always runs on time, we have never had to wait to be seen, which is remarkable for a medical/dental office! The payment options were also fair and easy to understand. And the follow up, even after those braces come off, has been stellar! Retainers get lost or chewed up sometimes (ugg!), but a quick text into the office and we were able to drop off the original molds and have new ones made very quickly. Everyone who works at this office truly cares, and you can tell they all enjoy where they work, which is really wonderful to see. I cannot speak highly enough of this office, the staff, the care, and ESPECIALLY the after care and protecting our investment.
