Types of Braces in Austin, TX

CT Types of Braces

Braces have become increasingly popular as both a cosmetic and corrective treatment. Since the invention of braces, it is clear that there have been advances in the technology and appearance of braces, to make them appear less noticeable. Traditional braces have brackets that are shiny metal. Although classic braces are still common, there are various options for patients who desire a more modern and less noticeable approach.

Types

Here at Central Texas Orthodontics, we offer a variety of braces options, personalized for each patient. These include:

Self-Ligating Braces

Made from the same material as traditional metal braces, Self-Ligating braces come with multiple types of brackets including metal, ceramic, or clear. Although they are the same exact size as traditional braces, they utilize a special clip instead of elastics to help guide the wire into the desired position. This clip allows for few office visits as fewer adjustments are needed since the clip reduces the amount of pressure on the tooth.

Clear (Ceramic) Braces

Clear ceramic braces are made of a clear material that allow them to appear less visible on the tooth. Because of this, they are a popular option for both teens and adult patients who desire a less noticeable option. Because they are clear however, closer attention to oral hygiene is necessary in order to avoid staining the clear brackets. Although the metal wires are durable, ceramic braces are larger and more brittle in comparison. Therefore, these braces are more common on the upper front teeth as opposed to the lower teeth.

Clear Aligners

Made from acrylic trays, clear aligners are popular for their invisible, removable appearance. Unlike braces that require brackets and wires, aligners are made to straighten your teeth without the visibility. Additionally, since the trays are removable, you’re able to eat and drink what you want as well as brush and floss normally. Clear aligners are perfect for those seeking a more comfortable and discreet option.
